Holcomb's recent coaching journey includes two seasons as the Buffalo Bills' linebackers coach and one season as their senior defensive assistant. Prior to that, he spent time with the Raiders' division rivals, the Arizona Cardinals, as their defensive coordinator and assistant head coach. But his time in Arizona was brief, lasting only a season before he moved on to the Cleveland Browns.
During his stint with the Browns, Holcomb served as the linebackers coach and run game coordinator. He then returned to familiar territory with the Carolina Panthers, where he had previously coached the linebackers from 2013 to 2017. In his second Panthers tenure, he took on the roles of defensive run game coordinator and assistant head coach of defense, stepping up as the interim defensive coordinator after Matt Rhule's departure in 2022.
While the Raiders have yet to announce a linebackers coach, it seems Holcomb's role will be more strategic than position-specific. His extensive experience across multiple teams and roles will undoubtedly be an asset to the Raiders' defense.
And this is the part most people miss: Holcomb's career began with the New York Giants back in 2009, where he spent four seasons as a defensive quality control coach and defensive assistant.
