A Ducati MotoGP rider is making waves with a significant breakthrough at the Sepang test, but will it last?
Fabio di Giannantonio, the VR46 Ducati rider, has reason to celebrate as he tames the beast that was his GP25's front-end issues. Despite not testing his preferred setup, he secured an impressive third place on the Sepang MotoGP test timesheets. And the best part? He consistently felt in control during the three-day test, a stark contrast to last year's unpredictable front-end behavior.
"I couldn't be happier with these testing days. The speed and feel were consistently on point," di Giannantonio enthused. He further elaborated, "I maintained a strong pace throughout, regardless of the setup changes and new components we tried."
But here's where it gets intriguing: di Giannantonio's optimism is tempered by the fact that he couldn't test his ideal setup due to rain. "We almost had it all together, but the rain disrupted our plans. We'll have to wait for Thailand to see the full potential." His best lap time of 1m 56.785s in the morning session and a slightly slower 1m 57.093s in the afternoon showcased his progress.
The real test of his newfound consistency will come at the Buriram test later this month. di Giannantonio is optimistic, stating, "The key is to replicate this performance in Thailand under different conditions." His teammate, Franco Morbidelli, also impressed, finishing seventh fastest on a satellite-spec machine.
