M&S Unveils Ambitious Expansion Plans: 500 New Stores Across the UK!
Marks & Spencer (M&S) has just dropped a major announcement, revealing an extensive list of 500 locations nationwide where they aim to establish new stores. Among these, four spots in East Dorset and the New Forest have been highlighted, sparking excitement and curiosity.
But here's where it gets controversial... M&S plans to reduce the number of full-line stores while significantly expanding its Food stores. With an ambitious goal of reaching 420 Food stores by 2028, M&S is reshaping its retail strategy.
And this is the part most people miss: the retailer is not just opening stores; they're aiming for 'the right space in the right places.' This means modernizing their store estate and offering an enhanced shopping experience.
The excellent performance of their new Food stores has given M&S the confidence to explore more locations, from Blandford Forum to Exmouth. With a focus on larger stores, wider aisles, and extended food ranges, M&S is aiming to attract more customers and provide a better shopping environment.
The four potential spots in East Dorset and the New Forest are:
- Blandford Forum
- Broadstone
- Ferndown
- Ringwood/Verwood
Other areas in the county that M&S has its eye on include North Dorchester and Lyme Regis/Axminster.
Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, shared their vision: "Our team is eager to find new sites for large M&S Food stores, as we work towards our strategy of bringing the right stores to the right locations."
So, what are the specific requirements for these new stores? M&S has outlined a detailed criteria list, including a minimum store size of 21,500+ sqft, prominent locations, dedicated car parking, and more.
All these new stores will adopt the 'renewal' format, featuring an enhanced M&S food experience.
M&S aims to have over half of its existing shops, including convenience stores, in this new format by April 2028.
