Union Glashütte's Averin Chronograph has carved its own path since its launch in 2008, blending bold geometry with sporty functionality. While earlier versions emphasized uniqueness with a central pointer date, recent editions have shifted towards a more conventional layout, aligning visually with established square racing chronographs.
The new Averin Chronograph references maintain the brand's signature rounded-square case and automotive-inspired design language. Measuring 41mm x 41mm with a height of 15.45mm, the case strikes a balance between presence and wearability. Alternating brushed and polished surfaces highlight the design's sharp lines and flat planes, while the domed sapphire crystal, curved into the corners, adds visual continuity. Two rectangular chronograph pushers flank the fluted crown, and the screw-down caseback features a sapphire window, offering a glimpse of the movement. Water resistance is rated at 100m.

In my opinion, Union Glashütte has successfully created a unique and coherent timepiece with the Averin Chronograph. While it may draw comparisons to the Monaco, the Averin has its own identity and purpose. The attention to detail, from the embossed dial to the contrasting chronograph hands, showcases a thoughtful design approach. With its reliable movement and accessible price point, the Averin Chronograph offers a compelling option for those seeking a square chronograph with a distinct aesthetic.
