UCLA's Dominant Display: A Season-High Victory Over Long Beach State
In a thrilling encounter on December 20, 2025, UCLA's women's basketball team showcased their prowess, routing Long Beach State by an impressive margin of 106-44. This victory not only marked the largest win of the season for the Bruins but also served as a perfect send-off for their non-conference campaign.
But here's where it gets controversial... or at least, a bit unexpected. UCLA, ranked 4th in the nation, faced a winless Long Beach State team, yet the final score was anything but a close contest. Gabriela Jaquez and Lauren Betts, the Bruins' dynamic duo, each scored 17 points, setting the tone for a dominant performance.
Kiki Rice, with her all-around game, contributed 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Gianna Kneepkens grabbed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jaquez's 5 three-pointers tied her career high, a remarkable feat.
Long Beach State, known as 'The Beach,' struggled mightily. JaQuoia Jones-Brown led them with 10 points, but the team committed 20 turnovers and fell short in almost every statistical category. Two starters, Khylee-Jade Pepe and Judit Oliva Fernandez, faced foul trouble, adding to their woes.
UCLA's dominance was evident from the start. They led 29-11 after the first quarter and extended their lead to a commanding 57-23 by halftime. Jaquez's hot hand from beyond the arc was a key factor.
The third quarter saw UCLA's lead balloon to an insurmountable 78-31, with Jaquez's fifth three-pointer capping off a remarkable performance. The Bruins' depth was on full display as they outscored Long Beach State 28-13 in the fourth quarter, with even star softball player Megan Grant getting in on the action.
And this is the part most people miss... UCLA freshman Sienna Betts, the younger sister of star center Lauren Betts, made her mark. In just her second game, she scored a season-high 14 points and played a season-high 15 minutes. Her return from a lower left leg injury sustained during preseason practice added an exciting dynamic to the team.
Coach Cori Close gave every player on the roster a chance to shine, and they all delivered. The Bruins' depth and talent were on full display.
This victory not only topped UCLA's previous season-high margin of victory against Southern but also served as a reminder of their Final Four run a year ago, when they defeated Long Beach State by 32 points.
Up next, Long Beach State hosts Toledo on Monday, hoping to turn their season around. UCLA, on the other hand, visits No. 21 Ohio State on December 28, looking to continue their impressive form in the Big Ten.
So, what do you think? Is UCLA's dominance a sign of a potential championship run, or are there hidden weaknesses that could be exposed? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
