It’s one of the most iconic events on the Aussie sporting calendar and the longest-running professional surfing event in the world. The steep cliffs and hillside overlooking Bells Beach help to create a natural amphitheatre for the crowds to set up camp and watch the awesome display of skill (and courage) being played out in front of them.
The festival atmosphere and proximity to surf-culture mecca Torquay mean the event itself is just one element of a fantastic beach holiday, which also happens to coincide with the Easter break. There’s the Surf World Museum to explore, many other great beaches, and, of course, the Great Ocean Road leading you further down the coast.
16 – 27 April 2014; see live.ripcurl.com (visit close to the event date for information).
