  • Great post! It’s refreshing to get a different perspective and a new route to discover the blue mountains. Went there back in December for the first time and can’t wait to go back and re-discover it all – with this new route in hand! Thanks.

Thank you for a wonderful article on the Bell’s Line of Road, you might say a hidden secret from many who opt for the faster route on the other side of the Blue Mountains. The Bell’s Line is a prettier and more laid back route and is well known to my ancestors. My grandmother was born in Lochiel House on Kurrajong Heights in 1888 where my great grandfather was the postmaster for many years and where he died in 1922. Thank you for including Mt Wilson & Mt Irvine in the article as so many do not venture off the main road to explore these amazing and wonderful villages. I encourage anyone reading this to explore the community website at http://www.mtwilson.com.au – why not visit the Mt Wilson & Mt Irvine Photography and Art Exhibition on the 18th and 19th October 2014 to explore further the gardens and natural bushland the area has to offer.

  • Its a great way to travel over the mountains, it avoids all the terrible road maintenance on the Great Western Highway. I reccommend the Freshly baked Apple Pies at the Bilpin Fruit Bowl at $10 each they are a steal. Also PIE in the Sky serves great home cooked savoury and meat pies. Echoing Beverley’s comments above don’t miss Mount Wilson always at its best in Autumn and Spring. The private gardens are stunning and in season why not pick chestnuts
